BRING THEM OUT

Millions of women and girls are estimated to be trafficked worldwide, with a substantial percentage coming from developing nations.

International Labor Organization

Heart of Mercy Mission is poised to bring them out: women and girls from bondage and slavery. Some of the key factors why women and girls fall prey to traffickers is poverty. Their need drives them to seek better opportunities, which drives them to trafficking. The lack of education reduces awareness about trafficking and increases vulnerability. Gender Inequality is another factor; when women are discriminated against as a cultural norm, they become easier targets.

There are various forms of trafficking—sex trafficking, where many women are forced into prostitution or sexual exploitation. Labor Trafficking is where women are exploited in domestic work, agriculture, or the manufacturing sector, forced marriage, where some are forced into an early marriage. The entrapment and control the traffickers have over these women and girls needs to be broken.

Here is just one example of a young woman whom we are helping.

Kej... is a 25-year-old girl from a village in Southeastern Albania. Five years ago, while attending university, she fell in love with a young man who, at first, seemed friendly and she trusted him. A few months into the relationship, he started introducing her to his friends and told her that there was no problem if she went with his friends, as they were her friends too.

When Kej... started to refuse, he began to abuse her physically and mentally. The boyfriend threatened to traffic her sister and her out of the country if she didn't accept. After a year of terror, sexual exploitation, psychological, physical, and sexual violence, she becomes pregnant. The boyfriend asked her to abort the baby, but she refused to do so.

She began asking for help, and some people she knew told her about a shelter in South Albania where she could take temporary refuge. Kejv... decided to leave for good and stayed in this center for 3 years, where she gave birth to a son. While she was at the center, some Christian believers spoke to her about Christ. After three years of being away in hiding, she returned to her grandmother's house in a village in Southeast Albania. She has started a job that does not pay well. She needs support for herself and her son. Our counselor encouraged her to attend a local church, and she has been attending regularly for four months.  She has a lot of issues that need to be healed because of her severe past abuse and the fear that the pimp will find her. Through Heart of Mercy Mission  Kej... is receiving the necessary treatment and support.
