BRING THEM OUT

Millions of women and girls are estimatedto be trafficked worldwide, with a substantial percentage coming fromdeveloping nations.

InternationalLabor Organization

Heart of Mercy Mission is poised to bring them out: womenand girls from bondage and slavery. Some of the key factors why women and girlsfall prey to traffickers is poverty. Their need drives them to seek betteropportunities, which drives them to trafficking. The lack of education reducesawareness about trafficking and increases vulnerability. Gender Inequality isanother factor; when women are discriminated against as a cultural norm, theybecome easier targets.

There are various forms of trafficking—sex trafficking, where many women are forced into prostitution or sexual exploitation. LaborTrafficking is where women are exploited in domestic work, agriculture, or themanufacturing sector, forced marriage, where some are forced into an earlymarriage. The entrapment and control the traffickers have over these women andgirls needs to be broken.

Here is just one example of a young woman whom we arehelping.

Kejvina is a 25-year-old girl from a village in SoutheasternAlbania. Five years

ago, while attending university, she fell in love with a youngman who, at first, seemed friendly and she trusted him. A few months into therelationship, he started introducing her to his friends and told her that therewas no problem if she went with his friends, as they were her friends too.

When Kejvina started to refuse, he began to abuse herphysically and mentally. The boyfriend threatened to traffic her sister and herout of the country if she didn't accept. After a year of terror, sexual exploitation, psychological, physical, and sexual violence, she becomes pregnant. Theboyfriend asked her to abort the baby, but she refused to do so.

She began asking for help, and some people she knew toldher about a shelter in South Albania where she could take temporary refuge. Kejvinadecided to leave for good and stayed in this center for 3 years, where she gavebirth to a son. While she was at the center, some Christian believers spoke toher about Christ. After three years of being away in hiding, she returned toher grandmother's house in a village in Southeast Albania. She has started ajob that does not pay well. She needs support for herself and her son. Ourcounselor encouraged her to attend a local church, and she has been attendingregularly for four months.  She has a lot of issues that need to be healedbecause of her severe past abuse and the fear that the pimp will find her. ThroughHeart of Mercy Mission  Kejvina isreceiving the necessary treatment and support.
